WHAT'S IN A NAME?
Affinity means a natural attraction, an inherent similarity between persons, kin by other means than blood, a close connection marked by similar interests, a feeling of kinship. Thus Affinity and Beyond.
Affinity Families are those who share a common bond, which is their need, desire, and commitment to become successful members of their communities.
HISTORY
Affinity and Beyond was founded in 2010 by a group of individuals who believe that community is important - for all, including those with developmental challenges. By being fully engaged in their community with the skills they need to do so, is paramount. It is that close connection that members have in common.
There are some community services available to some families. However, the gap in services is huge. Affinity was created to help fill the gap and help meet some needs of children or adults who face developmental challenges.
OUR VISION:
Individuals who face developmental challenges will have the skills and resources they need to fully participate in their community.
OUR MISSION:
Affinity and Beyond will provide resources and skill building opportunities to individuals and their care givers so they can become active participants in their community
SERVICES:
SOCIAL SKILLS GROUPS - Affinity can develop social skills groups in any community where there is a need and commitment from families and other partners. Groups are geared toward meeting individual needs. Groups are facilitated by well trained Developmental Specialist. They usually last between 2-3 hours and are offered for 6-12 weeks.
SUPERVISED COMMUNITY OUTINGS - Affinity provides supervised community outings which meet the needs and interests of participants. These are usually conducted in small groups of 4-6 and focus on building essential social skills.
ROUND TABLE DISCUSSIONS - Affinity Staff are very well informed regarding navigating the maze of community services. Round table discussions are set up with small groups of parents and caregivers and usually last 1-2 hours. Participants learn about Medicaid Waivered Services, including the Self Direct Model.
PERSON CENTERED PLANNING MEETINGS - Often family needs are very complicated and require a lot of support from family, friends, and formal and informal support systems. Affinity provides experienced facilitators to help families develop a plan of supports and develops goals and assigns responsibility for meeting the goals. This process usually takes 3-4 hours, but usually results in a plan which is based on real needs and available supports and services. This type of assistance can greatly enhance one's ability to live a more successful life.
SPECIALIZED COUNSELING - Those experiencing developmental challenges may not fully benefit from traditional therapies. Our Specialists offer alternatives which can help individuals and families function at a higher level.
BEHAVIOR CONSULTATION - Affinity Specialists provide a comprehensive assessment which may result in the development of a formal behavior plan, or simply make recommendations for supports and services. Short term case management is included in this service to insure the family is able to follow through or implement suggestions or activities.
AFFINITY ACADEMY - Affinity provides ongoing training for their Developmental Specialists and Support Staff. Additionally, Affinity can provide workshops or seminars to families, care givers, or service providers, upon request. Some requested training topics include: understanding ages and stages, dealing with difficult behaviors, navigating the maze of community services for families, plus much more.
ALL OF OUR SERVICES ARE PROVIDED BY HIGHLY TRAINED SPECIALISTS WHO ARE COMITTED TO THE VISION AND MISSION OF THE ORGANIZATION!
We serve anyone who feels our services can help them. A particular diagnosis is not required. Our target groups include those with Autism Spectrum, Learning Difficulties, Intellectual Limitations, and Social and Emotional Skills Deficits.
We accept cash, check, or credit for our services. All of our fees are reasonable and affordable for most families. We also work with Family Support Coordinators who have funding for community services.
